Final thoughts..

Overall i'm not at all pleased with the outcome of the model. However i am happy with what i have learned. My biggest mistake through modelling was only making half the model and then duplicating it. The model was looking half decent until i mirrored the model. This process just distorted my whole character, especially the the facial features and the head shape. Next time i model a character i will build the whole thing instead of only building half of it.
Secondly would have started modelling my character allot earlier, I left finishing my model to the last minute and encountered allot of problems that i didn't have time to fix. Next time i will learn to prioritise both projects equally.

Unfortunately the model didn't stand up..

Here is my model printed, I'm quite pleased with how its come out, i thought the model would fall apart because some parts are so thin. I'd like to smooth the model out but im afraid its a bit fragile.

half head

This is the head almost at its complete stage, as you can see stitching the plains together has made the head slightly distorted and you can see where the plains have been attached. I tried moving things about to hide the lines however i didn't really work. I managed to combine the nose and the lips together quite well i feel however attaching the lips to the chin has left some noticeable lines.

Working on the head

After giving the character its basic bodily form i started to work on the head. The way I did this was by creating each facial feature on a different plain and then try and stitch the plains together and form it into a head shape. However this didn't work very well when it came down to it as you'll see from the final model.

Creating the body

I started creating my character, I started using a cube for the arm and extruded downwards to form the body. I then gave the body a bit of form and then started working on the legs.

Basic T-pose

These are my T-poses, i'm going to import these into maya and use them as a template to work off. I feel i've captured the form of my character.

Character sketches

Heres a sketch i did of a character, I like this character due to its simplicity, I wanted to make a more bonkers character however i have to take into account my modelling ability as well.
But i do find that the simplicity of the character is allot more sinister and has more character to it
I've added some tartan pants to the character and a sling full of tools.

This here is a more tartan version of the character.. i gave him a scottish hat with a dead rodent on his head. I was going for a more humorous look.

Industry exercise 1

I've been looking at some classic scottish characters for inspiration, 'groundskeeper willie' is a perfect example of a stereotyped Scotsman. He's typically angry, bad tempered and resentful for everything.
Hes a very simple however brilliant character.

i started to look at the classic tartan material for inspiration, i realise its a little cheesy however i have found it quite useful.
I've actually been looking at the famous scottish comedian Billie Connolly.
I 've been looking at the many different scottish characters he's played over the years. Some are typical to his style and other characters he's played have been even more eccentric.
